Conisbrough situated in South Yorkshire. The old castle
dominates the view the original castle built of earth
and timber around about 1100. The Mighty stone keep rises
on a mound above the countryside. Once 100 foot high,
it is now in less lofty ruins but is still one of the
most impressive Norman castles, six wedge-shaped buttresses
visible. Features in Sir Walter Scotts novel Ivanhoe.
